PESHAWAR, March 12: The execution of Rs30 million development projects in Cantonment Board areas will begin from Monday, officials told Dawn on Wednesday.
The development would be carried out in 13.5kms radius area, officials said.
“Though the budget for the Cantonment Board would be announced in June, but we have decided to start some construction work before the budget to facilitate the people,” officials said.
He said Rs1m would be spent on the construction of drainage from Rose Hotel to Rehman Baba Plaza in Shoba Chowk, Khyber Bazaar.
A sum of Rs one million would be incurred on the construction, repair and patch work on the roads in Defence colony, officials said.
Rupees two million had been embarked for carrying out repair work on roads in Saddar area, including, Sunehri Masjid Road, Rafiqui Lane, re-carpeting of Choti Lal Korti Road and Abu Bakr Street, whereas an amount of Rs300,000 would be spent to repair the drainage system on Fakhr-i-Alam Road and Khyber Lane.
The construction of water tank in Cantonment Board Middle School and boundary wall of Cantonment graveyard, would cost Rs1m, officials said.
To save power, lights will be installed at the poles, which would work alternatively.
After 11pm, the lights in one of the two poles would be used, said the official, adding that only half of the lights would be utilized and half would remain switched off. This, the official said would cost another Rs2m and power consumption would be brought down considerably.
To meet the growing demand of water supply in Defence Officers Colony, water pumps worth Rs500,000 would be installed there, the officials said. Rs1.6 million had been reserved to provide drinking water to the people.
An amount of Rs2m would be incurred on the construction of footpaths, repair of faulty sewerage and telephone, electricity and gas lines, which had been disturbed during the anti-encroachment drive carried out by the Cantonment Board.
The Board, completed its wide-ranging anti- encroachment drive in Saddar area in which they released the land from the shopkeepers, which they had occupied illegally from the last 50 years. In the process, the shopkeepers everywhere in Cantonment area, were pushed back by four feet each that also caused damage to the footpaths, gas, electricity and telephone lines.
The construction of a commercial plaza would start soon at the cost of Rs10m, near Sunehri Masjid, which would generate more funds for the Cantonment Board.
Rupees one million had been embarked to construct five check-posts in Saddar Bazaar to check the growing incidents of car-lifting. These check-posts, the official said, would be run by the army initially, and be handed over to the police department at a later stage, officials said.
