GUJRANWALA, March 9: Students of technical and commerce colleges have demanded that only M.Com degree holders should be inducted into technical and commerce colleges as principals instead of master degree holders.

At a meeting here on Sunday, they said the government had inducted master degree holders as principals in all technical and commerce colleges of Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sialkot in violation of the Punjab University rules.

They said it was cleared by the university that the affiliation of private technical and commerce colleges would be abolished in case of induction of non-technical principals into these colleges.

The students also demanded that M.Com classes should be started in colleges of the three districts.

DEMAND: Residents of Sheranwala Bagh, including the Nazim and councillors, have urged the health department to restore maternity care health centre in the locality which was closed a few days ago.

DECLARED POs: Some 70 persons involved in criminal cases of Naushera Virkan were declared proclaimed offenders by the special judicial magistrate here on Saturday.

Tetley and Kot Ladha police had submitted chargesheets of these accused before the court a few months ago but they did not turn up in the court despite warrants.

The court ordered the police to arrest them and produce before the court on the next hearing.

POWER THIEVES: Twenty-five electricity thieves were caught red-handed by joint raiding teams of the Gujranwala Electric Power Company and the police in Naushera Virkan and Tetley on Sunday.

RECOVERED: The People’s Colony police claim on Sunday having recovered the trader who was kidnapped for ransom a few days ago.

Reports said Saleem and Azmatullah along with accomplices kidnapped two traders, Shahid Mahmood and Abdul Rauf, a few days ago. They released Rauf after receiving Rs950,000 as ransom.

The police, on a tip off, conducted a raid and recovered Mahmood from the hideout of the accused along with his car.

The police claimed that there was a money dispute between the complainants and the accused, while the families pleaded that they were kidnapped for ransom.
