DERA ISMAIL KHAN, March 9: Security has been beefed up throughout the Dera Ismail Khan district and army troops have started flag march in sensitive areas in the city to maintain law and order in Muharram.
The Frontier Constabulary personnel and police commandos on motorcycles are also patrolling roads and bazaars.
The district administration has imposed ban on the entry of 50 Ulema into the district under section 144, including that of MNA Maulana Azam Tariq.
The police have set up check posts on all entry and exit points of the district and city areas to keep eye on undesired people.
The administration has also imposed ban on pillion riding on motorcycle and there will be complete ban on motorcycle riding from 7th of Muharram.
District Police Officer Usman Zakria has asked the people to keep national identity cards with them for their convenience.
It is also reported that the district would be sealed out on 10th of Muharram and no one would be allowed to roam in the area except of Ashura mourners.
PROTEST: The lawyers’ community observed black day and took out a protest rally against the Legal Framework Order (LFO) here on Saturday on the call of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
The rally, led by district bar president Tahir Waseem Dyal, marched on the city roads and bazaars.
The lawyers, carrying placards inscribed with slogans against the LFO, raised slogans such as ‘no-LFO-no’ and ‘go-Musharraf-go’.
Speaking to the protesters, the leaders denounced the inclusion of the LFO in the Constitution, and vowed to save the independence of judiciary and supremacy of the Constitution.
Later, the demonstrators dispersed peacefully.
