KARACHI, March 2: Free Lancer playing second fiddle in his last three starts, should silence the critics by romping home to victory in the main event at the Winter Race Meeting, to be held on Monday at the Karachi Racecourse.

Last week, the chestnut horse penalised to carry nine stones and five pounds on his back, was beaten by Aziz Love and Sher Zai, 100 yards from the finishing line after leading the field into the home stretch.

Although promoted up a division, Free Lancer will now be carrying only 8-3 on his back, a difference of 16 pounds which should help improve his sprinting abilities.

However the going over the six furlong sprint will not be an easy journey. Two thoroughbreds Jugni and top weight Snake Eyed, both in sparkling form, will be two hard nuts to crack on the road to victory.

All in all seven events have been drawn up on the racing card. The first six will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs, while the last race will be run over six.

The first race begins at 1.00 p.m.

Another runner fancied to win in these columns is the bay gelding Just In Fun finishing on the board for a place berth in the last two outings.

Just In Fun participating in the fifth race of the afternoon going over five furlongs, should pass the winning post ahead of M.R. Hussain’s grey colt Mera Jugnoo, unlucky to finish second in his last three starts and Sarafan.

The same could be said about the thoroughbred chestnut colt Sarazen, participating in a big field of 18 runners in the sixth event.

If all goes well, Sarazen should gallop home to victory, with Sher Zai and the unlucky blue roan Order Of The Day, chasing the winner throughout the race.

In the opening event, Sunday Silence beaten by one and half lengths by Jango last Sunday, will be going all out to make amends for that defeat, by grabbing the spoils from Royal Beauty and Century.

Splendid Winner, although finishing off the board in his last engagement, has the credentials to win the next race from Jango and Striker.

The chestnut gelding Reasonable winning his last race in a photo- finish, should make further improvements in that last run in the third race and hold off the stiff challenge of Sachin, a winner in his last appearance and top weight Clever Cat.

Tauseef Ali Siddiqui’s bay mare Great Bakht, an impressive winner last Sunday, should win again with a good lad astride in the following event, with the dark bay filly Black Magic and the roan horse High Speed going all out to prevent that from happening.
