KARACHI, March 1: A vast area of the city will go dry on Monday and Tuesday owing to a leakage that has occurred in a 54-inch dia main Pipri pipeline and also because of the weekly water-holiday system already in vogue for the areas hooked to the Indus source.
The localities and important installations/organizations whose water supply would remain suspended for 48 hours, starting from 8am on Monday, include Defence Housing Authority, KESC Thermal Power Station, Akhtar Colony, Hazara Colony, Manzoor Colony, Korangi, Landhi and Korangi Industrial Area, Cattle Colony, Bin Qasim Town, Korangi Creek, PAF Base, National Refinery, Pakistan Refinery and their adjoining areas.
A spokesman for the city government’s water and sanitation department said that the repair work on the pipeline would be completed on Wednesday and hence the water supply to all the affected localities would be restored on Wednesday morning.
WEEKLY CLOSURE: The areas which would go dry on Monday as part of the city government’s plan of suspending the supply of localities connected with the Indus source for diverting the same to the localities hooked to the Hub dam are: All blocks of Federal B’ Area, North Nazimabad, Buffer Zone, Nazimabad and Shadman Town.
Water supply will also remain suspended on Tuesday in Clifton, Gizri, Delhi Colony, Punjab Colony, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Bhutta Village, JPMC, National Institute of Child Health and NICVD, Naval Dockyard, NORE-1 and GE Army installation.
Meanwhile, the localities which went without water on Saturday under the water-holiday system included PECHS, KDA Scheme-1, Sharfabad, Karachi Television Centre, KACH Society, Civic Centre and its adjoining localities, Mehmoodabad No 5, Liaquatabad, Gharibabad, Furqanabad, Bandhani Colony and parts of Nazimabad, Liaquat National Hospital and Aga Khan Hospital.
However, there will be no water closure on Sunday in any part of the city, the spokesman claimed.
