KARACHI, March 1: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has ordered transfer and posting of police officials only on the basis of merit and preparation of a crime map of each police station to ascertain the volume and nature of crime in their jurisdictions.

“Following the transfer, the police functionaries would be made clear that the government wanted eradication of crime and relief to the citizens,” he said while presiding over a meeting on law and order at the Governor’s House on Saturday.

The police officers, transferred and posted on their desire or on the recommendations of some one else, would not prove helpful in maintaining peace, he observed.

The governor stressed on integrated efforts for combating crime in the province.

He called for preparation of a crime map at the level of each police station so that the volume and category of crime could be determined.

He observed that on the basis of the statistics so developed, steps could be taken for undertaking desired security measures and elimination of crimes.

Mere transfer of a police official for an increase in the crime rate in his area is not sufficient, the governor said.

He stressed on beefing up security measures both in urban as well as rural areas, especially during the month of Muharram, through constant liaison with the organizers of mourning processions and meetings.
