GUJRANWALA, Feb 27: The district council sub-committees, which were formed to monitor various government functionaries, have failed to deliver the goods, according to union council Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Saleem.
Highlighting the committees’ performance at a district council meeting on Thursday, urban areas’ Nazims alleged that District Nazim Fayyaz Ahmad Chattha always released development funds for Wazirabad and Ahmadnagar, ignoring the city area.
They pointed out that Rs50 million had been released by the district council for uplift projects, but the city area had yet to see any development.
The participants urged the district Nazim to cancel Saddar tehsil’s toll tax collection contract, accusing the contractor and his men of overcharging and harassing transporters.
The officials offered fateha for the Kohat’s plane crash victims.
The meeting was adjourned for an indefinite period.
MEETING: Tehsil council Naib Nazim Ehsanullah Chaudhry said on Thursday a local government inquiry team had seized the tehsil’s record on his complaint that all the previous council meetings were illegal because these were not convened by him.
As the treasury and opposition groups’ members did not turn up, the convener adjourned the meeting for an indefinite period after waiting for the members for an hour.
POWER THEFT: A raiding team of Gujranwala Electric Power Company and Federal Investigating Unit on Thursday found three industrialists stealing power for commercial use.
