Patwari arrested for corruption

SAHIWAL, Feb 27: The Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested a revenue patwari after the cancellation of his pre-arrest bail by a civil court here on Thursday.

The ACE also managed a two-day physical remand of the accused. Presently posted at Lahore, Nasrullah Khan during his appointment at Miran Shah in Sahiwal had embezzled the consolidation fee besides favouring an MPA in the transfer of land. A case was registered against him after an inquiry which found him guilty of charges. The patwari had managed his pre-arrest bail which the civil court cancelled on Thursday.

HANGED: A schoolteacher convicted in a murder case was hanged on Thursday morning in Sahiwal Central Jail.

Saeed Akhtar had sodomized a 9th class student and later murdered him on March 6, 1996. A local court of Arifwala had handed him down death punishment on July 1, 1996. The high court and Supreme Court upheld the decision of the lower court while the president also rejected his clemency appeal.
