LAHORE, Nov 28: Mian Azhar on Wednesday suggested that all factions of the PML should unify.
Talking to journalists at an Iftar dinner, the PML(QA) president said his faction was in favour of unification.
As for unification with the PML(N), Mian Azhar said his was the elected faction and people from the other group were welcome to join it.
He said at a recent meeting with the PML(QA) delegation President Gen Musharraf had categorically said the government had struck no deal with the Sharifs.
According to him, only four people could not come back to Pakistan during the validity of the agreement while the remaining family members could come home or go back.
Replying to a question, the PML(QA) president ruled out the possibility of the immediate establishment of parliamentary boards to select party candidates for the next elections. He said the boards would be formed at the time of elections.
Premature formation of such boards, he said, could trigger differences in the party.
A senior party leader had said recently that parliamentary boards should be set up immediately so that candidates for various constituencies could be chosen much before the elections. He had argued that candidates selected now would get ample time to prepare themselves for the elections.
Mian Azhar said he saw no possibility of the elections being held in March or April.
About an all-party conference being organized by ARD president Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, he said if invited his party would take a decision on whether or not to participate in it.
He denied intra-party differences on any issue.
PERVAIZ ELAHI: Punjab PML(QA) president Pervaiz Elahi said there was no possibility of Mian Shahbaz Sharif returning home in the foreseeable future.
He said he had been hearing about the return of the former chief minister for quite some time. Had these reports been true, he said, by now Mr Sharif could have reached Pakistan by foot.
In his opinion the return of Mrs Nusrat Shahbaz would have no political impact as she was merely a housewife.
He was critical of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto’s statements during her visit to India. He alleged that Ms Bhutto had always issued such statements which were supportive of the Indian point of view on various issues. He said it was regrettable that after meeting with some anti-Pakistan leaders like L. K. Advani, she had issued statements against the Kashmiri people.
He said Dr Anwarul Haq, the younger brother of Ejazul Haq, would be given a befitting office in the party. He said he had always respected the family of the late Gen Ziaul Haq and thus would accommodate Dr Anwar.
He said he was starting organizational tours in connection with the elections. He said he would visit Narowal, Vehari and Chakwal in the near future.
Replying to a question, Mr Elahi said there was a need for including some sciences and other modern subjects in the curricula of the seminaries.
