Pervaiz for dist peace bodies

LAHORE, Feb 19: The chief minister ordered on Wednesday the constitution of district peace committees in order to maintain law and order especially during Muharram.

The committees should be constituted in consultation with the provincial monitoring cell and the district governments, Pervaiz Elahi said while presiding over a meeting.

He said ulema, MPAs and representatives of district governments should be inducted into peace committees which would promote the spirit of religious tolerance, peace and unity among the Muslims.

The chief minister said the monitoring cell would collect necessary information regarding law and order and hold its meetings regularly. It would also take all important decisions in this regard.

He said the district Nazimeen would play their role for the maintenance of law and order in league with the provincial government.

Earlier, he directed the IGP to prepare a plan of action to control law and order during Muharram. He said all SPs should be asked to deploy police at religious and sensitive places to avert any untoward incident during Muharram.

Talking to a delegation of lawyers, the chief minister said they could play an effective role in upholding the rule of law, strengthening the democratic system and provision of justice to the people.

He donated books worth Rs250,000 for the lawyers library, and said the government would give due importance to their suggestions while making laws. He said the government would also provide funds for the construction of judicial complexes.
