HYDERABAD, Feb 19: Rainwater that inundated low-lying areas in different parts of Hyderabad after heavy rains has still not been drained out, creating problems for people.

The residents have taken to the streets and blocked the main roads against authorities concerned for their failure in draining out rainwater which can cause the outbreak of epidemics as it has mixed with overflowing sewerage and drainage lines.

The sewerage system of the city has already collapsed and the main lines are silted.

A district government official told Dawn that at least six suction machines were required to desilt sewerage lines.

Wasa has only one suction machine which too is lying out of order.

Though the city is in a state of emergency, the relief work could not be started on war footing due to lack of funds.
