Match ends in exciting tie

KARACHI, Nov 27: Landhi Friends and Baqai Dolphins played out an exciting tie in a Group ‘A’ fixture of the Paragon Cup 2001 Ramazan cricket tournament at UBL Sports Complex ‘B’ Ground here Tuesday.

Chasing a target of 176, Landhi Friends closed their innings at 175 for nine in 25 overs with Man-of-the-Match Zahid Ali (71 off 63 balls, seven fours and three sixes) and Shahid Hussain (58 off 56 balls, six fours and one six) added 118 for the fifth wicket after the first four wickets had crashed for 27 runs.

Landhi Friends needed 11 off the final over of the match bowled by Dolphins skipper Hasan Raza.

Medium-pacer Mohammad Imran caused main damage with four for 26 while slow left-armer Tauqeer Ahmed took two for 49.

Earlier, Hasan top-scored with 46 off 26 deliveries, striking three sixes and four fours as Dolphins were bowled out for 175 in 24.3 overs.

Left-arm spinner Abdul Rehman bowled superbly to capture four for 21 in five overs with medium-pacer Iftikhar Ali taking two for 25.

In another match, played at UBL ‘A’ Ground, Ideal Group defeated A.O.CC by six wickets in Group ‘B’.

The highlight of this game was a belligerent 50 by Mohammad Rizwan for the winners. The opener blasted four sixes and as many fours in his 26-ball knock.
