KARACHI, Feb 18: Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammed Mahar on Tuesday visited Dawood Zangiani and Khaskheli villages in Gadap Union Council and reviewed the damages caused by thunderstorm and rains.

He offered Fateha for the five villagers who lost their lives due to collapse of their houses and announced a compensation of Rs 100,000 each for the deceased and treatment of the injured at government expenses.

The chief minister also announced Rs20,000 cash compensation for each damaged house.

Sindh minister for local government Mohammad Hussein, MNA Sher Mohammad Baloch, MPA Sajid Jokhio, Chief Secretary K.B. Rind, DCO Mir Hussein Ali and Town Nazim Gadap Ghulam Murtaza Baloch were also present.

The villagers told the chief minister that there were more than 300 families in the village, but there was no electricity. The CM ordered immediate provision of electricity to the village.

People of both the villages told the chief minister that thunderstorm hit the village at 4am, and it threw the sleeping people to 200-300 feet away and scattered roofs of their houses that took lives of five people.

Relief work: The City District Government Karachi, in an emergency relief operation, arranged temporary accommodation, food and milk for children for rain-affected population of UC-5, Songal, Ali Mohammed Khaskheli, Manushani and Jumani villages on Sunday night.

The City District Government appointed four district revenue officers in Grade 18 for supervision of relief work.

The Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan, accompanied by DCO Mir Hussain Ali visited the affected villages on Monday. He announced the provision of relief goods to the affected people. —APP

Rescued: At least 40 stranded labourers involved in the reti-bajri excavation in Mole Nadi on Superhighway were rescued by the Edhi volunteers when the labourers got stuck up in floods late on Monday night, adds our staff reporter.

According to the spokesman for the Edhi Foundation, the labourers were busy in the excavation work when floods lashed the almost dry river-bed.

In a similar incident, a person stranded in the rising water level in Malir River near Sharafi Goth was also rescued.
