FAISALABAD, Feb 14: The cleanliness arrangements made by the Tehsil Municipal Administration (city) proved futile as filth depots and open spaces were full with offals, intestines and other waste of sacrificial animals in almost all residential and commercial areas of the city.
The TMA (city) had announced to launch a cleanliness drive during a three-day Eid celebrations, but all efforts ended in smoke due to the negligence of the officials concerned.
The city parks and green belts as well as open spaces were full with municipal waste on the first day of Eid because sanitary workers did not turn up after their last weekly holiday on Sunday.
Most of the open places and parks which were marked as Eidgahs were also seen littered with garbage and municipal waste.
The citizens have been braving the stink emitting from the spares of sacrificial animals lying along roads, streets and other places.
Despite the passage of three days, the situation did not improve for the TMA sanitary wing was still playing the role of a silent spectator.
The Wasa authorities also did not lag behind and as could not make arrangements for the smooth flow of sewerage water. The sewerage water was also seen in a number of streets and roads, including the VIP Road-Jhang Road, due to choked system.
Several complaints about overflowing of gutters were also received from different city localities, but to no avail.
The TMA (city), Wasa and the district government did not set up any emergency centre for the quick disposal of waste of sacrificial animals and for the redressal of complaints about sewerage problems.
Meanwhile, Eidul Azha was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm across the district. Hundreds of makeshift camps were set up by religious organizations, NGOs, and managements of mosques for collecting hides of sacrificial animals.
SHOT DEAD: Two highwaymen shot dead an employee of the Agriculture Department and injured his brother on resistance in Rasalewala on the Faisalabad-Jhang Road on Wednesday night.
