KARACHI, Feb 14: At least five persons died and more than two dozens were injured in two road accidents in the city in the past 48 hours.
Two persons died and 20 others were injured in a road accident on Super Highway on Thursday evening.
The police said a Karachi-bound passenger coach Pakistan Coach (PA-0034) overturned near Dumba goth on Super Highway. The bus driver, Mujeeb, and an unidentified passenger died.
The injured have been admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
Quoting passengers, the police said the accident was caused due to overspeeding.
Three men died when a Thatta-bound passenger bus (JA-5481) collided with a car (L-6092) on National Highway.
Haji Mohammed Amin, Shafee Mohammed and Jumman died on the spot. Mohammed Aslam was injured.
The dead and injured were shifted to the JPMC.
A young man, Azam Gul, aged 26, was run over by a train near Baloch Colony on Wednesday.
The police said the dead man was resident of Swat, and here he worked as a vendor at Lea Market.
The body was sent to the JPMC.
KILLED: Four persons were killed in the city since Wednesday.
A man killed his nephew in Saddar on Friday evening.
The police said Shabbir Mazhar, aged 25, was stabbed to death by his maternal uncle over a domestic quarrel in an apartment near Luck Star in Saddar.
The suspect escaped after stabbing Shabbir.
Shabbir was rushed to the JPMC where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
A security guard shot dead a young man in Sir Syed Town on Friday.
The police said following an argument a private security guard, Babu Lal, opened fire on Mohammed Kashif, aged 22, in sector 15-B in Buffer Zone.
Kashif was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Kashif lived in Fatima Jinnah Colony.
The police claimed to have arrested the security guard.
A labourer was shot dead in Korangi on Wednesday.
The police said Siraj, aged 26, a furniture-maker, was shot dead by unidentified men in H-Area, Korangi.
The police suspected personal enmity to be a possible motive for the killing. The body was sent to the JPMC.
A man killed his wife in Quaidabad on Wednesday.
The police said Zubaida, aged 21, was slaughtered by her husband, Haq Nawaz, at their house in Sherpao Colony, Quaidabad.
The suspect escaped after killing his wife. The couple got married about four months back, the police said.
The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem.
The police suspected old tribal enmity to be a possible motive for the killing as the couple hailed from Balochistan.
ROBBERIES: Another robbery and a burglary were committed in the city on Friday.
Three armed men held an elderly man hostage for two hours in his car and robbed him of Rs20,000, in Saddar.
Mr Rahman, aged 60, told Dawn that three armed men forcibly entered his car near the Saddar GPO traffic signal.
For more than two hours they drove the car in different parts of Saddar Town and snatched his mobile phone and wallet.
When Mr Rahman asked the three armed what they wanted from him, as he had already offered his car to them. They demanded Rs20,000 from him. Mr Rahman called his son over his mobile phone and told him to bring cash as a close friend of his had suffered a serious accident.
Mr Rahman told his son to bring the cash near Capri Cinema where an employee of his friend would collect the cash from him.
After the armed men collected the cash, they set Mr Rahman free at a traffic signal near United Bakery.
