KARACHI, Nov 27: The banking court No 2, headed by Judge Rubina Khan, issued on Tuesday a decree against a loan defaulter of a Dubai-based bank in the sum of over Rs17 million.
Deciding the suit for recovery against Bahtkal Corporation, the judge issued the decree in the sum of Rs17,179,307 in favour of Emirates Bank.
The defaulting firm, owned by Shah Patel Husain, had secured a loan from the defunct Dubai Bank in 1973 in Dubai. The borrowers, however, defaulted on payment of the loan and the bank filed a suit for recovery with a Dubai court, which decided the matter in the favour of the lender.
Later, the Dubai Bank merged with Emirates Bank, and the case was transferred to the banking court on November 7, 1999.
CONVICTED: The Federal Anti-corruption Court, headed by Judge Muneer Ahmed Khwaja, sentenced a man, deported from Saudi Arabia, to three and a half months’ rigorous imprisonment.
Accused Mohammed Mansha was deported on Aug 29 this year from Dammam for holding a fake visa. He was arrested by the FIA immigration staff on his arrival from Saudi Arabia.
The judicial magistrate, West, Javed Salman, sentenced a man to one year’s RI with a fine of Rs1,000 for possessing an unlicensed TT pistol.
Ali Gohar will have to undergo an additional one month’s RI if he fails to pay the fine.
ACQUITTED: Additional district and sessions judge, West, Nasim Mansoor acquitted three workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a murder case.
The judge acquitted Jahanzeb, Abdul Jalil and Wali Rahman in the case for want of incriminating evidence. The case against the Muttahida men had been registered in 1992 by the Site police for the murder of an unknown man.
The special anti-narcotics court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, acquitted a man prosecuted for possessing 20 kilograms charas.
Accused Khan Zaman alias Sher Khan was arrested on November 1, 1999 by the Sukkun police, which claimed to have recovered the narcotics from him.
The judge acquitted him of the drug charges as the prosecution could not prove its case against him.
