ISLAMABAD, Feb 9: The Rs550 million project of Federal Judicial and Administration Complex (FJAC) is in doldrums owing to negligence of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), sources said.

They said except levelling of the ground, no work had been started so far. The project was formally launched at Mauve Area, Sector G-10/1, on June 2002. The complex is being constructed on 10 kanals.

Difference of opinion between the CDA and the Public Works Department on rates, awarding of contracts, commission and contractors is causing delay in the project, the sources said.

According to the plan, all local courts, chambers of lawyers and offices of the ICT administration, which are currently being run in rented buildings, would be shifted to the complex.

The construction of a judicial complex in the capital was an old demand of lawyers, who, in a plea filed with the Lahore High Court, had requested the court to ask the CDA to allocate land for the purpose.

The government has allocated Rs100 million for the complex for the fiscal year 2002-2003. Out of the total amount allocated for the project, Rs66.7 million has been spent on it.
