KARACHI, Feb 9: 106 vehicles — 36 cars and 70 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city in the past one week, the police said.

According to figures provided by the Central Police Office, 22 cars were hijacked and 14 others were stolen in the past week (Feb 3-9). Most of the cars were hijacked/stolen in Gulzar-i-Hijri, Ferozabad and Jamshed Quarters police limits and Gulberg town.

Thirty-three motorcycles were hijacked and 37 others were stolen. Most of the motorcycles were hijacked/stolen in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, New Karachi, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Korangi, etc.

The police claimed to have recovered 17 cars and 18 motorcycles in the past week. The rate of recovery for cars stood at 47.22 per cent, whereas that of motorcycles was 30 per cent, which is very low as compared with the recovery rate of cars.
