Sindh receives 23pc of Zakat fund

MIRPURKHAS, Feb 8: About 23 per cent of Rs5 billion Zakat fund has been provided to Sindh.

This was said by Sindh Information Technology Minister Shabbir Ahmad Qaimi while speaking at a cheque-distribution ceremony, held in Digri town here on Friday.

He said Rs46.998 million would be distributed in Mirpurkhas district during the current year under different heads of Zakat fund, including rehabilitation of the deserving, Guzara Allowance, medicines, scholarships, social welfare rehabilitation and Jahez.

Later, he distributed cheques of Zakat, amounting to Rs365,000, among 284 deserving people under the rehabilitation package.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mirpurkhas district Zakat committee chairman Zakria Ahmad Bawani said scholarships to deserving students would be provided on recommendations of a committee, comprising school headmaster, one staff member and the chairman of the local Zakat committee.

He announced to dissolve the Digri taluka Zakat committee and said the committee would be reconstituted after Eid.

District Zakat officer Farman Ali Tanwari said Rs30.285 million was allocated under the rehabilitation package in the district.

accident: A man was killed and another was injured when a speedy passenger bus overturned on the Jhuddo-Tando Jan Mohammad road, near Siloor Mori, on Friday.

The man killed was identified as Nelo Kachhi Kolhi, 35.

The injured, Bhalio Kolhi, was admitted to the Digri Taluka Hospital.

The Jhuddo police registered a case against the driver.

arrested: The police arrested two robbers who were fleeing after looting a shop on the Umerkot Road here on Friday.

The robbers, Pervez and Arif alias Pappu, both the residents of Hyderabad, entered the shop of Haji Wahid and escaped on a motorcycle parked outside the shop after looting Rs30,350 at gunpoint.

On receiving information, the police cordoned off the area and arrested the robbers.

The police recovered the stolen motorcycle and two TT pistols from their possession.

The police however claimed no looted money was recovered from the robbers.

A case was registered against the accused.
