SIALKOT, Feb 7: Governor Khalid Maqbool has sought the cooperation of private sector and NGOs for improving education and health sectors besides controlling environment pollution.
He was speaking at a meeting of the governing body of NGO Social Welfare and Health Society here on Friday.
He said no sector could grow without private sector’s help. “The government, people and private sector will have to launch a joint struggle for the provision of basic facilities to people.”
Governor Maqbool was all praise for the NGO for educating the deaf and dumb children.
He sought NGOs and philanthropists help for the provision of health and education facilities to mentally retarded children.
He said the government would encourage the NGOs who were active in public welfare projects.
Later, the governor inaugurated the special education centre for the deaf and dumb children established by the NGO in the cantonment area.
BRIEFING: Earlier, the governor attended a briefing by the district government and senior police officials.
He expressed grave concern over the Sambrial tragedy and directed police to speed up the pace of investigation so that real culprits could be nabbed and punished.
According to official sources, the governor assured the Sambrial victims’ families that all out efforts would be made to bring the killers to book besides making necessary legislation to avert such tragedy in future.
The governor offered his condolence to the bereaved families.
Meanwhile, Governor Maqbool also attended various Army functions in the cantonment on Thursday night.
