KARACHI, Feb 7: Judge Feroze Mehmood Bhatti of the ATC-2 adjourned the hearing of a bomb blast case against a worker of the banned Harkatul Mujahideen Aalmi after recording the statment of the accused.

The judge, who is conducting the trial inside the Central Prison, Karachi, fixed Saturday for the hearing the final arguments in the case from the prosecution and defence counsel.

Mohammed Ahmed Daniyal was charged with planting two explosives devices in a building, where the members of the Ismaili community were holding the function of their spiritual leader. One of the devices exploded, injuring a few people and damaging some motorcycles.

The accused stated that he had nothing to do with the blast and that he had already been shown to the two eye-witnesses before the identification parade.

show cause: An anti-terrorism court issued on Friday show-cause notice to Akram Lahori, the chief of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, for extending threats to the public prosecutor.

Judge Khan Pervaiz Chang of the ATC-4 fixed Feb 10 for taking up the contempt of court proceedings against the Lashkar chief, who is being prosecuted with two co-accused in sectarian killing cases inside the Central Prison.

The special public prosecutor, Maula Bux Bhatti, had moved an application before the court, stating that the accused had threatened him of dire consequences in the open court.

Lahori, Ataullah and Azam are facing charges of killing Agha Abbas, owner of a juice centre, on May 25 last year at Nazimabad No. 1, in the limits of Rizvia Society police.

Meanwhile, the pauper advocate, appointed by the judge for the defence of the accused, withdrew his power of attorney.

The judge ordered the accused to engage the lawyer of their own choice by the next hearing.

Earlier, the prosecution examined two more prosecution witnesses, Dr Jameel Maqbool and Judicial Magistrate Farida Mushtaq.
