8 policemen arrested in Dhaka

DHAKA, Feb 7: Eight policemen and a police informer were arrested in here on Thursday night on charges of extortion. Police took them into custody on a one-day remand on Friday.

The arrested policemen included a sub-inspector, an assistant sub-inspector and a constable of the criminal investigation department (CID), three constables of the special branch and a constable of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

The policemen concerned were accused of demanding 300,000 takas from several businessmen in Dhaka and threatening them with arrest if they failed to meet the demand.
