ISLAMABAD, Feb 6: The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) has asked the government to oppose US-led military action against Iraq even if the UN Security Council adopts a resolution justifying the attack.

Reacting to US Secretary of State Colin Powell’s speech to the UN Security Council, the PTI central information secretary, Akbar S. Babar, said the world doubted the credibility of the evidence shared by the US secretary of state with the UN Security Council about any imminent threat to regional peace that could justify military action against Iraq.

“War should not be an option to resolve political disputes,” he said, and added that the credibility of the United Nations would collapse by selective enforcement of UN Security Council resolutions,” he said.

As a non-permanent member of the Security Council, Pakistan must oppose any resolution that justifies military action against Iraq, he added.
