KARACHI, Feb 6: A division bench of the Sindh High Court on Thursday reserved its judgment on a number of petitions moved by more than 38 students facing expulsion from Sindh Medical College.

The students were found by Karachi University to have manipulated their admission to the SMC without qualifying the entry test. Since their admission was violative of the rules and was thus ab initio void, they could not be allowed to continue their education and benefit from their wrongdoing.

Appearing for the petitioners, Advocates Rashid A. Razvi and Muzzafarul Haq submitted that the affected students were not associated with any inquiry conducted by the university. They were not given an opportunity to explain their position. Neither the SMC nor the Sindh health department were in favour of a drastic action that would ruin their academic career.

The bench, comprising Justice S. Ahmad Sarwana and Justice Muhammad Mujibullah Siddiqui, reserved its order after hearing the arguments.
