ISLAMABAD, Feb 5: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) will soon seek suggestions, comments and proposals from the stakeholders to identify irritants in tax laws administration.
Federal Tax Ombudsman, Justice (Retd) Saleem Akhtar said that the information received from the stakeholders through this process would be compiled in a report.
Justice Akhtar said this the FTO would arrange meeting of the relevant stakeholders with the senior officials of the Central Board of Revenue (CBR).
He said that during the meeting, it was expected that consensus would be developed between the tax officials and stakeholders for eradicating the problems.
According to the FTO, the move was aimed at creating an environment of trust and confidence between the tax officials and taxpayers.
He said the FTO in two years of its inception had decided 254 cases of refunds releasing Rs84.03 million to the complainants.
The FTO said that during the last two years, it was observed that the tax officials in the field were not implementing the orders of the CBR.
He said that in some cases it was also found that decision were taken in total violation of tax laws apparently aimed at harassing the taxpayers.
