KARACHI, Feb 4: An anti-terrorism court acquitted on Tuesday two young men in a kidnapping for ransom case for want of incriminating evidence.
Farhan and Shahzad were prosecuted for kidnapping a two-year-old girl on Nov 28 last year in the police limits of Rizvia Society.
The girl was daughter of Farhan’s neighbour Shakir. The girl’s father deposed in the court that no ransom was demanded for the release of his daughter, though he had stated so before the police while lodging the case,
CASE AGAINST LAHORI: The ATC-5, headed by Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch, put off to Feb 8 the hearing of a sectarian killing case against the chief of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, Akram Lahori, and two others.
Lahori, Mohammed Azam and Ataullah are being tried for killing Dr Syed Aley Safdar Zaidi of the Kidney Centre on March 4 last year.
The judge, who is conducting the trial inside the Central Prison, also indicted accused Ataullah in the case of possession of an illegal weapon.
The doctor was on his way to the hospital from his Gizri house when two motorcyclists opened fire on his car (ABU-495) when he stopped at a signal near Sultan Masjid. He died on the spot.
On Saturday the judge had recorded the statement of DSP Mirza Majeed and sub-inspector Ajab Khan, who were also cross-examined by the pauper advocate, Mohammed Ashraf Mughul.
