GUJRAT, Nov 26: Another fugitive, who escaped from the Mandi Bahauddin District Jail on Oct 24, was re-arrested from his hideout in Jalalpur Jattan on Monday.
Jalalpur Jattan Saddar police led by SHO Tariq Warraich conducted a raid on his hideout near Bhalasar Morr and arrested Nasir Mehmood of Loha Tibba, while his accomplice Nawaz managed to escape.
SSP Riaz Ahmad told Dawn by telephone that the arrested fugitive had confessed to snatching a motorcycle (GTD-5019) from Rashid Ahmad and also shot at and injured him on resistance on Nov 22, 2001, near Bhalasar Morr.
A Gujrat district police spokesman said 11 prisoners involved in several cases of heinous nature had escaped from the jail after taking a jail official as hostage.
Three of them — Ausaf, Jehangir and Ghulam Azad were arrested within an hour of the jailbreak. Another fugitive, Qamar Abbas, was arrested the next day from Lahore and his accomplice Arshad from Chokorry Bheelowal, Dinga. Six escapee — Arshad, Ejaz, Shabbir, Nazir, Iqbal and Nasir Mehmood were still at large, he added.
ARRESTED: The district police on Monday claimed to have arrested four outlaws in three different incidents and recovered two motorcycles and a car from their possession.
Two robbers — Sajid Sharif and Mudassar Shah — snatched a motorcycle (GTF-4451) from Arif and deprived his sister of ornaments worth Rs95,000 near Mohary Sharif. Police however arrested Sajid with the booty within an hour of the incident.
Faisal Amin was relieved of his motorcycle (GTF-2478) by Qaiser Mehmood and Irfan Ahmad near Shah Hussain Chowk. Later, police arrested Qaiser and also recovered the snatched motorcycle.
Two car-lifters Afzal Ahmad and Imtiaz Shabbir took away a car (GTE-3381) of Azam from outside Khizer Hospital, Kharian. After a brief shootout, police arrested outlaws and also recovered the car.
