KARACHI, Jan 30: An additional district and sessions judge, East, Shamshad Qazi, sentenced on Thursday a man to 35 years’ rigorous imprisonment for killing a man and injuring another.
Rafique Gujjar killed Mumtaz Ali and Hakeem in a dispute at Model Colony in 1994.
BAIL GRANTED: An additional district and sessions judge, Mohammed Sagheer Rana, granted bail to a former councillor, belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, in the murder case of a police constable.
Waqar Ahmed, booked in 1996 in the case, had been declared a proclaimed offender and was recently arrested.
The Muttahida worker had allegedly killed constable Allah Ditta in 1996 in the police limits of Orangi Town.
The judge gave him bail in the sum of Rs100,000.
Another Muttahida worker was given bail in a murder case by an additional district and sessions judge, West, Naseem Mansoor, in the sum of Rs50,000.
Mohammed Ehtisham alias Ehtisham Khajji Ground Wala was arrested for killing Subhan, a police informer, in the police limits of Mominabad.
MAJOR ZARGHAM CASE: The judicial magistrate, South, Rahmatullah Moro, recorded the statement of Colonel Ali Haider in the inquiry into a direct complaint against the chief of the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee and 19 others, including a senior superintendent of police, for involving an army officer in a Hudood case.
Major Mohammed Zargham Mirza had lodged a direct complaint before the judicial magistrate for registration of a criminal case against 20 respondents, including Jamil Yousuf and A. D. Khawaja, under sections 182, 500 and 506 of PPC.
The army officer, who had conducted the summary of evidence, placed on record the statements of 21 witnesses.
Those who have been made respondents in the complaint include Zaeem Iqbal, ASP, Lubna Tiwana, then SHO of Women Police Station, Inspector Abdul Hakim Bangash, Azhar Ellahi and Sharf Memon.
The magistrate had issued on Jan 20 notices to certain army officers, including Lt-Col Ahmed Khan Joya, Lt-Col Ayaz Khan, Lt-Col Ashfaq Shah and Major Arshad, to appear in the court.
A defence counsel for the inspector-general of the Sindh police appeared before the magistrate and filed an application for recalling the summons issued for the appearance of the Sindh police chief in the court in this matter.
