LAHORE, April 8: The 9th annual exhibition titled ‘Memories of the Future’ of sculpture, ceramics, paintings and Graphic Arts opened at Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall, on Monday.

Renowned classical dancer Naheed Siddiqui inaugurated the exhibition.

She said: “It’s a wonderful show and artists through their works have come up with new ideas, approaches and thoughts. Dance is not something different from painting, all arts are interlinked with each other.”

Naheed said the kind of spirit the artists had shown in the art show must be kept alive because the process of creativity must go on.

Some 350 or so works were on display in the exhibition by approximately 400 young artists.

The Lahore Arts Council has been organising the event for the last nine years with the objective of providing young artists with opportunities to showcase their works.

The exhibition was also a competition. A panel comprising Principal Kinnaird College Dr Rukhsana David, Prof Bashir Ahmed, Dean Fine Arts Department, National College of Arts and visual artist from NCA, Usman Saeed, adjudged the 10 best works of the show.

The winners of the exhibition were given Rs10,000 each along with certificates by Lahore Arts Council. The winners were Ali Baba, Amna Manzoor, Attia Rashid, Ayesha Siddiqui, Kiran Naz, Kiran Saleem, Laraib, Rafia Butt, Saba Saleem and Sidra Liaquat.

Naheed Siddiqui gave cash awards and certificates to the winners.

In the exhibition the young and emerging artists clearly displayed the trauma of a nation.
