DERA ISMAIL KHAN, March 28: Actress-turned-politician Musarrat Shaheen on Thursday filed nomination papers to contest elections against Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, former National Assembly deputy speaker Faisal Karim Kundi and Senator Waqar Ahmad Khan from NA-24.

Ms Shaheen, who is the chairwoman of Tehrik-i-Masawat Party, had contested elections against Mr Rehman from the same constituency in 1997 but didn’t succeed.

After filing nomination papers, she said she would contest election against Mr Rehman come what may.

Ms Shaheen said she was contesting elections to stop exploitation of local people at the hands of Mr Rehman.

She said the JUI-F leader always exploited the people of Dera Ismail Khan.

The former actress said she would also contest election against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

She said the Election Commission of Pakistan should ensure implementation of Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution in order to bar entry of corrupt people to parliament.

She said her life was under threat and asked the government to provide her with proper security for election campaign.
