KARACHI, Jan 28: During a meeting with the elected representatives of teachers on Tuesday, the vice-chancellor of the University of Karachi said that outstanding issues of teachers would be resolved soon.
Dr Zafar Saied Saify told the teachers that he would ensure that meetings of the statutory bodies of the university met regularly in future and that the academic council would meet even in his absence.
A Karachi University Teachers’ Society press release said that issues regarding scholarship funds, leave encashment, house building loan and priorities exercised by the VC came under discussion. The VC assured the teachers that the committee formed by the varsity syndicate to look into complaints against some former officials would expedite its enquiry.
The delegation was led by its president Sarwar Nasim. The VC assured the teachers that the process of negotiation would continue and he would meet members of the executive council once a month to resolve their problems.
DAY OF ACTION: The KUTS will observe a black day on Wednesday to register its protest against the model university ordinance.
In line with a decision of the Federation of All-Pakistan University Academic Staff Association, teachers at the University of Karachi would wear black arm-bands and bring out a rally from the arts lobby at 11am.
