HYDERABAD: TCC members stage walkout

HYDERABAD, Jan 28: The members of the Taluka City Council (TCC) walked out of its session on Tuesday to protest against the non-implementation of resolutions adopted by it.

Abdul Hameed led the walk-out after delivering a hard-hitting speech.

The session was scheduled to take up the matter of contract of cabins and pushcarts in the limits of the TCC.

The issue led to a division between the TCC members as some of them were opposed to the contract, describing them as encroachments.

Some other members, however, claimed that it would generate income for the TCC.

Abdul Hameed and Rana Siddiqui said that on the one hand an anti-encroachment drive had been launched, while on the other such contracts were being contemplated.

Mr Hameed said that juice and ice-creams cabins had been established in the city, but at the same time these were adding to the problems of shop owners in various plazas and markets.

He said that the TCC’s encroachment department had completely failed to come up to the expectations of the people maintaining that in the recent past no planning had been done for the welfare of the people.

He said that the resolutions adopted so far had not been implemented and the files containing them had been kept in cold storage.

He staged a walk out saying that he would not attend the session unless proper implementation of various issues was ensured. He was joined by other members.

The proceedings were adjourned for 30 minutes. Later, some members returned. However, the session had been adjourned for Wednesday.
