KARACHI, Jan 27: A three-day orientation programme for the members of the Sindh assembly is beginning at a local hotel from Tuesday.
The programme, organized by Sindh Assembly Secretariat in collaboration with the Asia Foundation, will focus on legislative procedure, accountability/committee system and member-support services.
The Speaker of Sindh Assembly, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, will chair the inaugural session which would be addressed by Julio A. Andrews, the Foundation’s representative in Pakistan, a former speaker of the National Assembly, Syed Fakhr Imam and the former senator and federal minister, Javed Jabbar.
The first working session of the programme will be held on Wednesday and chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Rahila Tiwana.
The main topics to be discussed during the session are functions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker, points of order, resolutions, motions, privileges of members, etc.
Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly, will preside over the second working session to be held on Thursday to discuss committee system, question hour, calling attention motion, etc.
The Chief Minister, Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan Mahar, will be the chief guest at the concluding session the same day. A former National Assembly Secretary, Khan Ahmed Goraya, and Senate Secretary, Shahid Iqbal will act as resource persons during the orientation programme.—PPI
