PESHAWAR, Jan 26: An Afghan refugee women Jirga has demanded restoration of fundamental human rights, disarmament of warlords and empowerment of women to actively participate in the reconstruction of war-ravaged Afghanistan.
The Jirga was organized by Aurat Publication and Information Service Foundation in collaboration with Afghan NGOs here on Saturday.
More than 170 Afghan women from different refugee camps, delegations from Kabul and representatives of NGOs attended the Jirga and expressed their point of view on the political, social and economic condition of the country.
The Jirga was convened to review political changes in Afghanistan and the role of Afghan women in the current political scenario of the country.
A joint declaration issued at the end of the Jirga demanded full representation for Afghan women in the next Loya Jirga and freedom of expression and movement to play their role in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of their country.
The Jirga expressed concern over the prevailing fragile security situation in many parts of the country and demanded of the government to eradicate warlord culture from the society.
The declaration called for a comprehensive economic revival plan, provision of long and short-term loans, proper marketing system, rehabilitation of vulnerable women and children and provision of health and education facilities in rural and urban areas of the country.
