LAHORE, Jan 26: The job of assessing the income of growers for levying agriculture tax cannot be entrusted to those revenue officials who are already causing problems to agriculturists, says Punjab Agriculture Minister Muhammad Arshad Khan Lodhi.
He was chairing a meeting of the committee constituted by the Chief Minister to review matters related to the farm income tax at the Civil Secretariat here on Sunday.
The body is supposed to submit recommendations for adopting a rational schedule for realizing the tax from the growers.
The meeting discussed various aspects of the issue keeping in view the problems and meagre income of the farming community.
Revenue Board authorities were asked to prepare a working paper on the basis of recommendations of the committee, including at least three to four options, for submission to the cabinet.
The meeting was also attended by Minister for Finance, Sardar Husnain Bahadur Dreshak, Minister for Revenue Gul Hamid Khan Rokhari, Minister for C&W Ch Zaheeruddin and Minister for Irrigation Amir Sultan Cheema besides senior member, Board of Revenue, and secretaries of Finance and Agriculture departments.
MEETING: Revenue Minister Gul Hameed Khan Rokhari will preside over a meeting here on Monday (today) at 10am in the Committee Room of the Revenue department.
BoR Senior member Ziaur Rehman will give briefing to the minister about the department.—APP
