KARACHI, Jan 25: Lover’s Way, a five-year-old grey mare, should sprint home to another success, when the Winter Race Meeting begins at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

With stable jockey Imamdin in the saddle, the thoroughbred mare should scorch the turf over six furlongs to win the concluding race from Dur-e-Yamen and Charkh Bareen. Sweet Touch and My Freedom, penalised to carry 9-7 on his back, will also be joining the fray.

A card of seven events have been chalked up with the first five to be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs and the last two to be run over six.

The first race begins at 12-30 p.m.

Another horse that should not lose is the bay five-year-old Ford Mustang competing in a field of 18 runners, going over five furlongs in the third race of the afternoon.

Partnered once again by jockey Shehzad, Ford Mustang owned by the Chairman of the Karachi Race Course Yousuf Dada, should not pose any hiccups for the connections, passing the post ahead of Auzy (Late Gold Money) and Great Bakht.

The same can be said about Ismail Shah’s six-year-old horse Slim Fit, also contesting among 18 runners going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs in the following event.

Two weeks ago, ridden by Sher Mohammad, Slim Fit came in with a rattling burst and almost beat the favourite Defence Academy. Only half a length separated both the runners.

Slim Fit should be followed home by Free Lancer and Dushtiyani, with Arab King completing the frame.

In the opener, the chestnut horse Daru, although carrying 9-5 on his back, is fancied in these columns to make amends for last week’s defeat with Century, Royal Promise and Darbari Malang, battling it out for the two place chances.

Last week, Present Will let down his followers by finishing off the board. The bay horse tomoroow with an allowance should beat Jango, Super Boy and Gharnata to the winning post in the second race.

Royal Lancer owned by Syed Ali Gohar Shah and trained by Karim Agha, should present another winner to the owner with evergreen Sher Khan astride in the fifth race.

However, Neelam Taab and Golden Voice will challenge the likely winner throughout the five furlong sprint.

The blue roan Order Of The Day, our day’s best last week which won at splendid odds, is fancied once again in these columns to register another victory for owner-trainer Yaqoob Butt in th sixth event going over six furlongs.

Snake Eyed, Jugni, who went wide at the bend last week after setting a scorching pace, and the game mare Guarantee should also be there at the winning post.
