KARACHI, Jan 24: The Anti-corruption Committee No 1, which met here under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary K. B. Rind here on Friday, dropped a case against the former IG, Sindh, Rana Maqbool Ahmed, former DIG, Farooque Amin Qureshi and former SSP (Security) C. K. Chachar.
The decision was taken in the light of an inquiry conducted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Four other cases of Home, Law, Agriculture and Communication and Works departments have also been dropped whereas prosecution process in two cases pertaining to zakat & ushr and finance departments has been ordered.
Mirza Karim Baig, Chairman of the Anti-corruption Establishment, and other officials were present during the meeting.
The committee gave approval for action against certain officials of the provincial finance department for demanding bribe for the release of compensation amount granted to the poor as ‘special loans’.
It examined 49 cases — 19 pertaining to health department, nine to irrigation and power department, seven to education department, four to local government, rural development, public health engineering and Katchi Abadis and one each relating to home, law, agriculture, communication and works, zakat and ushr and finance departments.
The committee dropped five cases relating to the health department. It also gave approval for an open inquiry in the cases of Dr Masood Ahmed Solangi (BS-18) and Muhammad Ishaque (Naib Qasid) of Services Hospital, Hyderabad; Dr Abdul Sattar Burdi, former incharge of Rural Health Centre (RHC), Wagan, Larkana; Dr Sartaj Ahmed, ex-medical officer of Taluka Hospital, Qambar; Dr Bashir Ahmed Memon, ex-medical officer, Kandyaro; Dr Abdul Hameed Shaikh, RHC Ahra, Gambat; Dr Maula Bux, Dr Muhammad Hassan Shah and Dr Talib Arain of Taluka Hospital, Dando, Badin; Dr Shafi Muhammad Toor, MO Taluka Hospital, Kandyaro; Dr Sajjad Haider Shah of RHC Chondko, Khairpur; Dr Qadir Bux Dahri, Dr Abdul Khaliq Mangnejo and Dr Khan Muhammad Mughal of Taluka Hospital, Tando Muhammad Khan.
The committee dropped two cases of irrigation and power department and gave approval for the initiation of proceedings in the following cases: Muhammad Mithal Unnar, former executive engineer West division, Khairpur; Ghulam Murtaza Jalbani, assistant engineer Sita subdivision; Agha Ali Hassan Pathan, former executive engineer, Jamaluddin Domki, executive engineer and Syed Iqbal Hussain Shah, executive engineer, and others.
Action will also be taken against a retired superintending engineer, Ghulam Muhammad Memon, whereas departmental action will be taken in three other cases of the same department.
The committee gave approval for departmental action in a case belonging to Education Department. The staff involved are Ms Kamla Devi, DEO (female) Mithi; Allah Jurio, supervisor, Hala; and Wahid Bux, junior clerk, Hala. Besides, an open inquiry and prosecution in six cases of education department has been ordered. Those involved in the six cases have been identified as Mushtaque Ahmed Tunio; Shamsuddin, executive engineer Works, Mithi; Bakhsh Ali, headmaster, Government High School, Faridabad, Dadu; Tanveer Ahmed Memon, assistant engineer Works, subdivision Latifabad; Ms Omnat Memon, sub-divisional education officer (Girls).
After examining the cases pertaining to local government, rural development, public health engineering and katchi abadis departments, the committee decided to drop three cases and ordered investigation and prosecution process in cases against Javed Hussain Bhutto, assistant engineer, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board. He has already been removed from the service.
The committee decided to hold a meeting in the first week of every month. The chief secretary directed the secretary, irrigation and power, to submit a report of those officers of BS-18 and above against whom inquiries had been completed. He further directed the secretary to ensure completion of investigation in any case within three months and take action against the concerned investigation officer in case of his failure.—PPI
