RAWALPINDI, Jan 22: A woman killed her husband by setting him on fire to stop him from marrying for the second time, police and relatives told Dawn on Wednesday.

According to the police, Mohammad Khalid, a father of four and driver by profession residing in Tumair village near Bhara Kahu, was sleeping when his wife, Shahnaz, doused him with kerosene oil and ignited the fire.

On hearing Khalid’s screams, his neighbours rushed to his rescue and shifted him to Federal Government Services Hospital where he expired at noon, they added.

The victim sustained more than 70 per cent burns, a doctor at the hospital said.

Khalid’s brother, who came to receive the body at the hospital, told Dawn that there had been a dispute between the couple since long.

The police said: “While the burn victim was being shifted to the hospital, Shahnaz escaped from the scene along with one of her daughters.”

In another incident, a 25-year-old labourer, Rahim Gul, was buried alive while digging in Habib Colony, Pirwadhai, police said. The deceased was a daily-wage worker belonging to Bajaur Agency, they added.

Meanwhile, one person was shot and injured, while cash, vehicles and other valuables were stolen in separate incidents in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, police said on Wednesday.

In the first incident, three persons intercepted a pedestrian in Bhara Kahu on Tuesday night and snatched Rs1,500 from him at gunpoint.

Zaheer Ahmed, the robbery victim suffered another blow when he went to the Bhara Kahu police station to lodge a complaint.

Zaheer was told by the officials to visit the Secretariat police station as the crime scene was out of their jurisdiction.

The same reply was given by the Secretariat police, the sources said.

Similarly, two persons snatched a yellow cab (LHR-7448) from its driver at gunpoint in Sadiqabad and escaped.

In another incident, some unknown burglars broke into a house in sector I-8/3 and stole a car (AKA-4516) parked in the garage.

Faiz Ahmed, lodged a similar complaint with the Sihala police saying that some unidentified burglars broke into his shop and made off with cash and a gun.

A taxi driver was shot and injured in Sadiqabad on Tuesday night, police said.

Mohammad Nazir 30, the robbery victim lodged a complaint with the Sadiqabad police saying that one person booked his cab (MNQ- 9436) for Shakarial.

When he reached the destination, two other persons, who were already present there, overpowered the taxi driver and snatched cash and keys of the car.
