MULTAN, Jan 21: Activists belonging to various political parties and non-government organizations staged a protest demonstration here on Tuesday against the violation of women’s rights in south Punjab.

Dozens of people carrying banners and placards assembled in front of the local press club, chanting slogans in favour of due status for women in the society.

The participants belonged to Awaz Foundation and women wings of PPP, PML-Q and MMA.

An organizer of the demonstration said that their protest was against honour killings, acid attacks and panchayat-backed crimes against women in this part of the country.

Talking to newsmen, MMA’s MPA Ms Zaibunisa Qureshi pledged that she would raise the issue of acid attacks on the floor of the assembly to press the government for necessary legislation.
