LAHORE, Jan 20: Pakistan Customs drew 1-1 with Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) to remain in contention for the final round from pool `B’ in the 50th national hockey championship at National Hockey Stadium Monday.

To decide the fifth team of pool ‘A’, PAF meet Railways on Tuesday. The winners of that match face Customs on Wednesday to decide the ninth team to qualify for the final round. Eight teams have already qualified for the main round.

POF needed a win, while Customs a draw in the game in which the latter took the lead through Shabbir in the 7th minute. Aamir Shahzad equalized for POF in the 66th minute.

Two goals from Shakil Abbasi helped Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) edge past Habib Bank (HBL) 3-1.

HBL got the lead when Ejaz Rasool was on target in the 7th minute. Shakil converted the 53rd-minute penalty corner to restore parity, while Mohammad Khaliq put PTCL 2-1 ahead four minutes later.

PTCL extended the lead when Shakil scored his second to seal the fate of the match.

Wapda maintained their unbeaten run when they defeated Allied Bank (ABL) 2-1. Sohail Abbas converted a short corner in the 14th minute to gain 1-0 lead for Wapda. Mudassir Ali Khan doubled the lead in the 48th minute.

ABL reduced the margin in the 51st minute when Mohammad Sarfaraz found the cage.

PIA also remain unbeaten in the tournament when they outplayed Police 4-2.

PIA made a flying start with Rahim Khan scoring his first in the 12th minute, Amir Salim netted in the 28th minute off a penalty stroke, while Kamran Ashraf banged home a minute before the halftime.

Police reduced the margin through Javed Iqbal in the 55th minute.   But eight minutes later, PIA increased the margin when Rahim netted his second by converting a short corner.

Police scored their second goal when Tariq Mahmood made no mistake from a 66th-minute short-corner.

Two goals from Naeem Akbar and Zeeshan Ashraf enabled National Bank thrash PTV 6-1.

Naeem scored his first in the very first minute of the game, Adnan Maqsood enhanced the lead off a 10th-minute short corner, Zeeshan came in action three minutes later to make it 3-0. Imran Warsi banged home NBP’s fourth goal on a penalty corner, Naeem slammed his second in the 52nd minute.

PTV scored the consolation goal in the 55th minute through Mohammad Ashfaq. Zeeshan found the cage in the 63rd minute to complete the scoring.

Pakistan Navy crushed University Grants Commission (UGC) 8-1. Jameel Khan grabbed the lead for Navy in the 8th minute. Imran netted in the 13th minute. Two minutes later, Mohammad Saleem found the net. Imran (23rd minute), Riaz Ahmad (24th minute), and Jameel (26th minute), M. N. Jabbar (44th minute), increased the lead.

UGC scored their solitary goal in the 45th minute through Ahmad Sadiq, while Navy’s Riaz completed the tally with a 60th-minute goal.
