RAWALPINDI, Jan 15: Pace bowler Mohammad Hasnain helped Karachi Blues take an unlikely first innings lead of 25 runs over Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) in their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Group-IV match at KRL Stadium on Wednesday.
Hasnain claimed six wickets for 69 runs to send ZTBL reeling for a first innings total of 157 after the bankers had resumed at the overnight score of 65 for three.
At the close of second’s play, Karachi Blues were 113 for two, taking an overall lead of 138 with Mohammad Zafar going strong on 65 and Sharjeel Ashraf not out with seven to his name.
Meanwhile, PIA took a massive 256-run lead against Rawalpindi after piling up 395 in their first innings at Pindi Cricket Stadium.
PIA’s major contributions came from Bazid Khan (91), Asif Mujtaba (62) and Faisal Iqbal (56).
Former Test pacer Mohammad Akram captured four for 78 while Mohammad Fayyaz, Mahmood Khan and Shiraz Khalid claimed two wickets each.
Rawalpindi were 33 for two when play ended for the second day with both wickets falling to Test fast bowler Mohammad Zahid.
Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) trounced Peshawar by an innings and 43 runs inside two days at Arbab Niaz Stadium.
KRL added 49 to their overnight score of 225 for seven with medium-pacer Mohammad Siddique capturing five for 91.
But Peshawar then suffered the embarrassment of being bowled out twice in a single day. Speedsters Mubashir Nazir (five for 66) and Mohammad Asif (four for 44) sent them crashing to 124 in the first innings.
The home side fared even worse in the second knock, making just 107. Leg-spinner Azhar Ali did the damage this time with figures of four for 34.
