RAWALPINDI, Jan 14: The district and sessions judge, Dost Mohammad Khemta, on Tuesday awarded one-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a person convicted of smuggling drugs.

The court also imposed a Rs5,000 fine on the convict, Khan Gul. The drug-peddler will have to undergo another month of RI if he failed to deposit the fine.

The Air Port police have arrested the convict after recovering 350 grams charas from his possession.

Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, Sayyed Pervez Ali Shah, awarded one-year RI to a man, Amir Shehzad, for smuggling drugs.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the convict, who would undergo another month of RI, if he failed to pay the fine.

The same court issued warrant for the arrest of a casualty medical officer (CMO) at District Headquarters Hospital, Dr Mohammad Shafique, for not complying with the orders of court.

The doctor is a witness in a murder case, but he did not appeared in the court to record his statement despite receiving show cause notices.

The judge of anti-terrorists court no. 2, Safdar Hussain Malik, has sent three alleged terrorists on six-day physical remand.

The accused — Mubarak Sayyed, Noorullah and Mumtaz Ali — had been booked by the Saddar Bairooni police on Monday after allegedly seizing two hand grenades from their possession.

According to the police, the persons belonged to the NWFP and were smuggling the grenades to Punjab for use in some terrorism activity.

The same court also sent a deputy forest officer and his younger brother on judicial remand for opening fire and seriously injuring two of their opponents, including a general councillor, on the district court premises on January 6.
