KARACHI, Jan 12: All lanes leading to Saddar from the Lines Area were flooded with filthy water on Saturday evening.

The water made pedestrians’ movement almost impossible while vehicular traffic also faced severe difficulty.

The water flowing from Jutland Lines inundated residential areas across the St Patrick’s Church as well as the lanes around the main stops of minibuses going to Korangi, Sharea Faisal, Shah Faisal Colony, Mahmoodabad, Dhoraji, Bahadurabad and Gulshan-i- Iqbal, etc.

The water also obstructed the road leading to Saddar from Taj Complex, passing through a weekly bazaar ground which has also been in a shambles due to appearance of potholes, stony bumps and no lighting at night.

This road serves as an alternative approach to Saddar when traffic get jammed at a few paces past the Fire Brigade at the tip of the Empress Market, opposite Rainbow Centre, but is in a dilapidated condition at present.

Besides, for some months it has become a routine that buses and minibuses entering Saddar via the Rainbow Centre for onward passage to Regal roundabout remain stuck up at Preedy Street’s intersection with Daudpota Road below the pedestrian bridge, leaving vehicles behind them stranded up to the Rainbow Centre, as no turning is available in between.

The traffic police at the pedestrian bridge crossing fail to control buses and minibuses, causing jams to all types of traffic going from the Cantonment station side towards M.A. Jinnah Road.

The road leading to Saddar from Taj Complex via Students’ Cafe also has potholes, non-standard speed-breakers, road cuts left unlevelled and no lighting at night despite presence of a marriage hall, due to which all types of vehicles use it till late night.—APP
