KARACHI, Jan 9: Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar has dispelled the impression that there were any differences among the coalition partners in Sindh or cabinet members.
Presiding over the first cabinet meeting at the new Sindh Secretariat here on Thursday, the CM said that the coalition and cabinet had the same goal — to serve the people of Sindh without any discrimination and work as a team for the welfare of people and development of the province.
He said that safety and security of every citizen of Sindh was the first priority of his government. A change in this regard would be visible very shortly, he declared.
The CM said that good governance, law and order, coordination between federal and provincial governments, water shortage, NFC Award, unemployment, education, health and a check on price hike were the priorities of his government.
Mr Mahar expressed his concern over car snatching, kidnapping for ransom and other heinous crimes and directed the concerned authorities to take stern action against the culprits to restore peace in the province.
He spoke of a consensus on continuing the present policies as well as going ahead with the development schemes initiated during last three years.
He also rejected the rumours of any major shuffling of bureaucracy in the province and said that transfers and postings of officers would be made on merit.
Mr Mahar expressed his hope that his colleagues would always come forward to ameliorate the sufferings of people. He pledged that he would not do anything against the prescribed rules.
The cabinet discussed the problems being faced by sugarcane growers and pledged to find a solution soon.
Earlier, all the cabinet members reposed full confidence in the leadership of the chief minister.
The CM also held a separate meeting with the secretaries of different departments and issued policy guidance.
DIRECTIVES: The chief minister, addressing senior officers at the Committee Room of Sindh Secretariat on Thursday, directed them to take all possible measures to redress the grievances of people, adds PPI.
He said that priority be given to mitigate sufferings of people and a system be evolved for quick disposal of files so as to ensure justice without any delay.
The Chief Secretary, K. B. Rind, was also present at the meeting.
Mr Mahar said that the government was determined to ensure good governance in every organization for which bureaucracy could play a vital role.
He emphasized the need for observing punctuality and regularity in offices maximum time could be devoted to the solution of the people’s problems.
Expressing his determination to help the common man overcome his problems, the CM said he would make himself available at the Secretariat building, personally listen the people’s problems and issue orders for their solutions.
He asked the provincial secretaries to brief him on their respective departments’ performance regularly with a view to accelerate the pace of development in different welfare projects.
He also emphasized the need for a better working relationship between ministers and secretaries as harmony and effective coordination were essential for the smooth running of departments’ affairs.
Mr Mahar called upon the senior officers to improve their efficiency. He also expressed the hope that his colleagues would always uphold the supremacy of law.
