KARACHI, Dec 8: Pearl, splendidly ridden once again by M. Nasir, scored another victory, sprinting in from behind to collar the front runners at the Winter Gymkhana Meeting held on Wednesday at the Karachi Racecourse.

Trained by Taj Mohammad, the bay horse beat Noor-un-Nisa by three lengths, with Mera Sulman and Even Top completing the frame.

Nasir and Taj combined with another victory in the last race, which enabled them to complete the afternoon with a brace of winners. But their victory had to be shared with the bay horse Snake Eyed ridden by Sohail Ahmed in the concluding event, when the race was declared a dead heat.

Nasir aboard the thoroughbred bay filly Shama, took a flying start when the concluding event began going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs and led the field half a furlong from the winning post when Snake Eyed managed to get his neck in front near the railing.

With a flurry of hands and heels Nasir urged on his mount. Responding to the call, Shama came on again and passed Snake Eyed by a neck at the winning post.

The connections were overjoyed but something seemed amiss when the winner and runners-up were not placed on the board. After quite awhile the race was declared a dead heat.

The first of the afternoon was won by Sweet Senorita ridden by Fatah Mohammad, beating nearest rival Spring Fair by two lengths.

Clever Cat enabled jockey Tariq Mehmood add another feather to is cap, sprinting home to victory ahead of Rich Valiant, Present Will and Sunday Silence in the next event.

Sweet Grandy ridden by M. Yousuf and trained by newcomer Arshad Qadeer, never gave the connections any jitters, beating Mark by a comfortable margin of nine lengths in the fourth race.

After a disappointing run last time out, Order Of The Day, partnered this time by Aamir Ali, caused the biggest upset on the programme, beating Royal Lancer in his last stride.

The next race meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Jan 12.
