KARACHI, Jan 8: A man died and another was seriously injured in an encounter with the police in the Mithadar area on Wednesday.

The police claimed that two bandits robbed Zafar Gul of his motorcycle (KAV-9746) from Ramdas Street, Mithadar after injuring him.

When they reached Jodia Bazar, they opened fire at two policemen — Mohammed Manaha and Mohammed Siddique — who tried to intercept them and in retaliation the cops returned the fire killing one of them and injuring the other.

Both the bandits and Mr Gul were shifted to the Civil Hospital, where one of the bandit was pronounced dead, whereas the other, identified as Akhlaq, was admitted in precarious condition with two bullet-hits in the abdomen.

The motorcycle owner was stated to be in a stable condition as he had received a bullet wound in his leg.

The police claimed the recovery of one a pistol and bullets from the possession of the bandits.

ACCIDENT: A minor boy died in a road accident in Soldier Bazar area on Wednesday evening.

Police said that Chand, 6, was crossing the main Nishtar road along with his mother when a minibus of (JE-9497) knocked him down.

The boy was shifted to the Civil Hospital, where he died during medical treatment.

Police claimed to have arrested the errant driver and impounded the vehicle.

Police said that in an other accident in the Site area Namroz Khan, 25, was knocked down by a minibus near Valika Hospital, whereas the driver escaped.

The injured was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, from where he was referred to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, but could not survive.

ARRESTED: Police have arrested Naeem Khan over charges of bank fraud on Wednesday.

The police said that he came to the Muslim Commercial Bank, Business Recorder road branch, on Tuesday with a cheque of Rs9.5 million.

The bank staff cleared the cheque and the man walked away with the cash.

On Wednesday, he again came to the same branch with another cheque of Rs13.5 million. The staff became suspicious and the account holder was contacted, who refused issuing any such cheque.

The account belonged to a chemical industry, the police said.

Consequently, Naeem Khan was asked to sit and wait, meanwhile the staff contacted “15”, but were advised to call the Soldier Bazar police for his arrest.

During interrogation, he revealed that he was hired as a driver by a man, Rashid, against a salary of Rs4000.

Police said that Khan, 60, was a retired Army man.
