KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7: Pakistan blitz Malaysian under-16 boys 6-0 in the four-nation International Under-19 Invitation hockey tournament at National Stadium Tuesday evening.

After a dismal showing against India, Pakistan’s forwards showed flowing and dazzling moves against a hapless Malaysia.

Pakistan scored three field goals in each half to register a much needed morale boosting win. Skipper left-in Tariq Aziz and right-in Yasir Islam slammed two goal apiece while, left-half Asim Khan who was replaced by Abbas Haider contributed one goal each.

Abbas scored the best goal of the match with a deadly reverse flick which gave Malaysian goalkeeper Ahmed Bazil Razali no chance three minutes from time.

“Though we are not getting any point but it’s a good morale- boosting win for the team. It will give boys confidence,” Olympian Ayaz Mahmood told reporters at a post match press conference.

India and Malaysians are leading the points table with four points each with one win and one draw. South Korea and Pakistan are still pointless.

Malaysian under-16 looked a bit tired against Pakistan after having drawn a tough game against South Korea. However, in the second half they counter-attacked but failed to score due to fine work by Pak defence line.

Earlier in the second match on Monday, Malaysian under-16 produced sterling performance and held South Korea to 1-1 draw.

Koreans took the lead in sixth minute through centre- forward Kim Young Bae.

Malaysians offered a great challenge to Koreans and finally scored ten minutes from time. Hafifi Hafiz Hanafi scored the equaliser in 60th minute.

Pakistan will take on strong Malaysian under-19 in an important match Wednesday night while India clash South Korea in the first match.

Pakistan: Muhammad Adeel Ahmed (Shakir Muneer) Ikhlaq Ahmed, Muhammad Tariq Yameen, Muhammad Imran Khan, Muhammad Imran (Sajjad Anwar), Sajjad Anwar, Ovais Khan, Adnan Zakir , Muhammad Arif, Muhammad Naeem Akber, (Abbas Haider).

Meanwhile, Malaysia will play a three-Test match hockey series against Pakistan in coming March before the Azlan Shah Cup if Indians did not play proposed Test series.

If proposed Indo-Pak hockey series in Malaysia could not materialise then Malaysia will be playing Test series against Pakistan, Secretary General, Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) S. Satgunam.

Azlan Shah Cup will be held at Ipoh from March 22-30. Besides Pakistan and hosts Malaysia, India, Germany, New Zealand and South Korea will be featuring in six-nation contest.

MHF Secretary General said at this stage the chances of the series between Pakistan and India are good as Indians are also keen for the series.

He said he will soon be approaching Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) for the proposed Test after knowing the fate of India-Pakistan series. He hoped if finalised, the series will serve as a good build-up for Pakistan and Malaysia prior in the Azlan Shah Cup, he added.

Sattgunam said MHF enjoyed excellent relations with PHF and Pakistan has always helped Malaysia in hockey in different ways.

Commenting on exchanges of visits between the countries, he said Malaysia may be sending their junior team to Pakistan later this year or next year or invite Pakistan for a series of matches.—APP
