LAHORE, Jan 7: The election tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notice to provincial Minister for Industries Ajmal Cheema on a petition challenging his membership of the Punjab Assembly.
PML-N leader Saboor Kassana challenged his membership on the grounds that he had earned a diploma from Ashworth Institute of the US and had presented the certificate as a graduation degree along with his nomination papers.
The petitioner contended that the certificate was not equivalent to the BA degree in Pakistan. He submitted that the respondent had committed fraud.
He submitted that even the institute which issued the diploma was neither recognized by the US or by Pakistan’s University Grants Commission.
NOTICE: The Lahore SSP has been issued show-cause notice for not complying with the court orders on a contempt of court petition.
The court on the last date of hearing had directed the SSP to appear in person to explain as to why the stolen car of the petitioner, recovered by the Anti-Car Lifting Squad, had not been returned to him and no action had been taken against the accused sub-inspector.
The court was told that no departmental inquiry against Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar had been initiated by the SSP for not having returned the car.
Petitioner Muhammad Afzal contended that his stolen car was recovered by the Anti-Car Lifting Squad but SI Zulfiqar refused to return his vehicle. He prayed that the SI be ordered to return his car.
