KARACHI, Jan 6: A media university has been planned in the country with financial cooperation of the private sector.
This was stated by former information minister Nisar A. Memon, at a dinner hosted in his honour on Sunday.
He said a philanthropist from Lahore had committed Rs20 million for the purpose.
Mr Memon, however, did not disclose the name of the donor who would himself announce the plan, but added that the philanthropist had approached him to spearhead the institution.
He said the government of President Pervez Musharraf had given an unprecedented freedom to the media — both print and electronic.
The former minister recalled that when he assumed the office in Gen Musharraf’s government, he had stated that the APP - an official wire service - would be made a national news agency and he was able to make a headway in this regard.—APP
