LAHORE, Oct 16: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the Lahore High Court on Tuesday that six Pakistanis imprisoned in Bagram Theatre Internment Camp in Afghanistan were being released.

A list of the six Pakistanis to be released from captivity was also submitted to the court of Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan.

The judge praised the efforts of the ministry and observed that this was a proof of the hard work done by the petitioner (Justice Project Pakistan) to bring Pakistani citizens back.

The judge adjourned further hearing till Nov 15.

The judge was hearing a petition filed by Justice Project Pakistan, a non-profit law firm, for the release and return of Pakistani citizens from the US captivity.

The petitioner submitted that Pakistani citizens had been detained in Bagram jail without any charge or trial since 2003. It said they were abducted from Pakistan and removed to the infamous US prison in Afghanistan.

Initially the petition was filed for the release of seven Pakistanis, however, later names of more 25 prisoners were included.

Jamaat: The Jamaat-i-Islami has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking directions for the federal government to approach the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against the makers of profane film.

The JI filed the petition through its secretary-general Liaqat Baloch and deputy secretary Dr Farid Piracha.

Petitioners said the government be directed to initiate proceedings before the ICJ for violation of Article 18 of the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”, and the profane movie makers be prosecuted and convicted for a crime against humanity.
